Species at Risk Act (SARA) came into effect in Canada on December 12th, 2002 (1).
Purpose: to prevent wildlife species in Canada from becoming endangered or disappearing and to assist with the recovery of wildlife species that are endangered, threatened due to human activity, or no longer exist in Canada (1).
The adoption of this act completed the National Strategy for the Protection of Species at Risk (1). It is employed to encourage various governments in Canada to collaborate and take responsibility to protect the wildlife species in this country (1).
